The collection consists of the holographic diary of English economist and author, Nassau William Senior. The diary, written between September 1 and October 23, 1862, formed one segment of Senior's travel diaries, later published as Journals, Conversations and Essays related to Ireland in 1868. Raymond Dexter Havens, educator and author, was born in Rochester, New York in 1880. In 1925, he joined The Johns Hopkins University faculty as Caroline Donovan Professor of English, a post he held until his retirement in 1949.
